1 Remove Max from desk.
2 Set out judge’s book and catalogue on desk.
3 Tell Max book and catalogue do not need rearranging.
4 Switch on computer.
5 Pick book and catalogue up from floor and put back on desk.
6 Write report heading.
7 Remove Max from keyboard.
8 Compose report preamble.
9 Remove Max from judge’s book.
10 Type in title of first class.
11 Remove Max from catalogue.
12 Put in name of first cat.

14 Try to describe first cat.
15 Give up and go and have a coffee and read newspaper.
16. Save coffee from being knocked over by Max.
17. Sit with a happy, purring Max on lap, his mission to completely sabotage my attempt to write a report successfully completed.

time to leave home

That time is approaching fast -when kittens start to leave home.

It has been a journey, finding the right homes for each kitten.
Nimes decided that she was staying put. When she was 6 weeks old, she had concussion following a fall,  (we think, she is not telling!) and needed a bit of extra TLC. She is a hair-chewer, sitting on my shoulder or on the back of the chair, to attack ears!

Bradley - renamed Angus, is going to be a Vet's cat, for my son, James. James is starting his career in Market Rasen, and needs the support of an active companion and Angus will soon get used to travelling at weekends, coming 'home' on regular trips. He may show up at a few shows, as he is looking super, not flash, but still breed standard.

Elvira, the other choc point, is joining her grandmother's family, and her new owner (Linda Dinsdale) is hoping that she will fit in with her crew, I am sure that it will be fine!

Finally Celia Seal. She was originally booked to go to a lovely couple, but a change in health circumstances has prevented that. After a few 'potentials' we have now linked her to a lovely home-from-home in Ripon, where her new family (if it all works out) have sheep, bees, dogs and it all sounds great!

It is going to be very sad, dividing the family up, but they all need more individual attention now, to bring out their own characters. At least Rennes will have Nimes staying, Celia will be here for a few more weeks and Brad (No, Angus) will be a Helicopter Kit, reappearing with regularity!

KITTENS VERSES PUPPIES

27/10/2016

Kittens are different to puppies.  The floor is a lot cleaner, although there may be the granular texture of cat litter underfoot. They prefer the wood pellet type, although we have mixed in mineral ones, so that they are used to other forms.  Food may be devoured at speed or stared at, with that dismissive foot movement of 'bury that under the carpet'. The cheaper foods may be chosen above the expensive ones. Adult Siamese food is adored.  Toys are played with, instead of being chewed.  They fall asleep next to the Aga, in cat beds, or on the platforms of their 'cat tree'.

We have reached the 9 week stage, and they are nearly ready to move to new homes. Vaccinations were given, with no side effects, and wormers administered. GCCF registration was tackled, and the paperwork is on it's way, It is good to have finally used our prefix, registered over 25 years ago. We chose the 4 languages of South Africa as kitten names, So Bryher Zulu will be off to join our son. We have decided to keep one of the choc point girls, as having seen how caring Rennes has been, of her kittens, parting with all 4 would seem unfair to her.

WEEK TWO to THREE - BABY RENNES

The first 'real event' of the 2nd week was when eyes started to open, shortly followed by a typical bout of 'neonatal conjunctivitis' , or Sticky eyes, in two of the kittens. Colours are starting to appear, with 2 kits developing the darker 'muddy' body colour that often indicates a seal point. The other two have a more ivory body colour, although ears seem the same as the first two...we shall see! Interestingly it is the paler two who have the eye problem. They are starting to get more mobile within the Kittenpod, and Rennes spends a lot of her time nursing them.

A typical teenaged mother, she would also like to go out clubbing, and she keeps bringing one (not the same one) down stairs and plonking her (or him, it might be Bradley!) in front of the dogs, hoping that they might babysit. They express polite interest, but have not volunteered - so far! Either she (or I) take baby back upstairs and we have to shut her in the nursery, or another kitten will make the trip down the stairs!

WEEK ONE - BABY RENNES

The most stressful week must be the week after the birth. Rennes is a first-time mum, and it is always interesting to see how much behaviour is innate (inborn). She is relaxed with her kittens, having chosen the bedroom kittenpod, as quiet and furthest from the hurly-burly of the kitchen (3 dogs, cooking, family space). Although food, litter tray and water were provided up there, she comes down to use her standard food bowls and tray. I presume this is the 'wild' behaviour, not eating in the nest, so that food smells do not attract predators.

We lost one kitten on day 1 and another went very flat on day 2. At birth, everything went very fast and I think that these kits got chilled and may not have taken on colostrum, so were weaker and less protected. We revived the 2nd kit, but he never developed a strong suck reflex and died 2 days later. The 4 remaining kittens seem to be growing well and healthy. Rennes is in with them for most of the time, but trots down the stairs for food and adult company on a frequent basis.

This morning there was a bit of a squeeky comotion. Rennes was trotting around with one of the kits, dangling from her mouth. Kit was squeeking in protest. I retrieved kit from the kitchen and put her back in the nest. Kitten then was brought back down. Rennes showed her kitten to the three large black dogs, all expressed interest! Then she took the kitten back up to bed. Rennes looks on the dogs as her family, so I suspect the kits will be downstairs soon!

so I suspect the kits will be downstairs soon!

WAITING FOR RENNES

After nearly 9 weeks of waiting, Rennes is approaching motherhood with her normal relaxed character.

Today she entertained the Seal Point Siamese Cat Club's committee and then the AGM, by trying out all of the laps and positioning herself in the middle of the table, all the better to garner appreciative comments and tummy tickles.

The next few days should be interesting.
