History of the club
The club was formed in 1969; it’s main aim was to promote the welfare and pure breeding of the Seal Point Siamese Cat. It was felt that interest in other colours was such that the colour of seals was deteriorating as a result of mixed breeding. The inaugural meeting took place on the 2nd August 1969. Dr Ivor Raleigh was elected first chairman of the club. The following is taken from the minutes of that meeting …..
Dr Raleigh stated that the main object of the club was to preserve the seal point Siamese, and that he had nothing against experimental breeding under controlled conditions, but the effect of experimental breeding was making it increasingly difficult to keep up the standard of the Seal Point Siamese. Although type had improved there was regrettable loss of coat contrast which was undesirable. |
A group of interested people had met together to form this new club: he expressed a hope that the club would become one of the foremost in the country, that it would be non-political, and that they had no wish to alienate other Siamese clubs.
The rules stated that the objects of the new club shall be ……
a) To encourage and preserve the integrity of the Seal Point Siamese cat by selective breeding methods.
b) To provide a social focus for persons interested in this particular breed.
c) To co-operate with other Siamese specialist clubs in furthering the welfare of all Siamese cats, and in their protection.
d) To appoint breed judges, and to combine with other Siamese specialist clubs in the appointment of Siamese judges.
e) To put on cat shows, guarantee classes, make other awards at shows, and to encourage all activities relevant to these objects.
The club became affiliated to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy in 1973.
